BIS statistics

OfficialIn development

The Bank for International Settlements’ statistical datasets, which republish central bank policy rates and national consumer price indices in one consistent format. Used for Bank Indonesia’s policy rate and Indonesia’s consumer price inflation.

Methodology

Policy rates (WS_CBPOL) are compiled from each central bank’s own announcements; the monthly series is the end-of-month value, and for Indonesia it is the BI 7-day reverse repo rate from 19 August 2016. Consumer prices (WS_LONG_CPI) carry the national CPI of BPS-Statistics Indonesia. For Indonesia from January 2023 the year-on-year change is calculated by the BIS from its own copy of the BPS index, so a month can differ slightly from the rate BPS published; for 2023 the gap reaches about 0.2 points, so this platform keeps months from January 2024 only.

Collection approach

Two requests per run to the documented BIS SDMX REST API (v1), one per dataset, with format=sdmx-json so the response is JSON. About three years of monthly history for the policy rate, and months from January 2024 for consumer prices. No key and no cookies are sent; the API sets cookies of its own and the client discards them.

Method: Machine-readable data feed

Feasibility findings

Measured 10 October 2026

Low risk
Access mechanism
Documented public API
A public API with published documentation and a contract we can rely on.
Credentials
Not required for the endpoints measured.
Collection risk
Automated access appears permitted and the mechanism is stable.
Automated access
stats.bis.org/robots.txt redirects to data.bis.org (read 2026-10-10), whose robots.txt is "User-agent: * / Allow: /" with Disallow rules only for interactive table parameters (filter=, sort=, rows=, cols= and similar). The API paths are not excluded.
Historical depth
Policy rates for Indonesia from 2005 and CPI year-on-year changes for decades. The connector keeps about three years.
Collection permission
Established. The publisher’s published terms permit reuse of these figures, on conditions this site meets, such as naming the source. No separate permission was requested. Read the terms.

This is an engineering feasibility assessment, not legal advice. No authentication or access control was bypassed to produce it, and where terms could not be established the risk is recorded as unknown rather than assumed favourable.

Known limitations

  • Republished data: the policy rate comes from Bank Indonesia; the inflation rate is calculated by the BIS from BPS’s consumer price index and can differ slightly from the rate BPS published.
  • BPS publishes inflation first; the BIS figure usually follows about a month later.
  • The monthly policy rate is the end-of-month value, so a decision taken mid-month appears from that month’s figure on.
  • The jump from 6.50% to 5.25% in August 2016 is a change of instrument, not a rate cut.
  • No release date is published, so the date recorded is when this platform first retrieved the figure.
